Late 20^th Century USA: ⁽¹⁾

Now I lay me down to sleep.

I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

And if I should die before I wake,

I pray the Lord my soul to take.

        If I should live another day,
        I pray the Lord to guide my way.

       God bless (names of family).

Traditional Hutterite Prayer: ⁽²⁾

Ich bin klein,

Mein Herz ist rein

In Jesu Namen

Schlaf ich ein.

Die lieben Engelein,

Werden meine Wächter sein.

Amen.

I am a little child

My heart is pure

In Jesus’ name

I go to sleep

The lovely Angels

Will watch over me.

Amen.

Polish Mennonite (19^th Century): ⁽⁴⁾

Wenn in dieser bevorstehenden Nacht, einer oder der andre, sein Leben schliessen soll, dann wollest Du uns ein seeliges Ende verleihen, so dass wir von hier in Frieden scheiden koennen, und dort in die ewige Ruhe eintreten, wo wir dich loben und preisen koennen mit allen Heiligen.  Dazu wollest Du uns Kraft verleihen durch deine Liebe und Barmherzigkeit.

Amen.

If it is Thy will, that one or the other should close his life in death this night, then we pray that Thou wilt grant us a holy ending, so that we can depart from this life in peace, and enter into everlasting rest, where we can praise and worship Thee with all the Holy ones.  To this end, we pray for strength, through Thy Love and Mercy.
