Living Traditions

No longer will they have need to teach their friends and relatives how to
know the Lord.

These lines from the Prophet Jeremiah inspired me and
gave me a sense of idealism and hope. How amazing would it be if our faith
and the works we do were so clear that knowing God and God’s love was
intuitive or instinctive? What type of community would we be if we did not
have to formally teach our friends and families about God because God,
God’s love, and the good that comes from a life of faith were self-evident?
Jeremiah is preaching these words to a broken community in exile that feels
as if its faith, beliefs, and traditions are disappearing. Many of us feel this at
times, especially these days. Jeremiah speaks the words of the Lord in
reminding people that God is with us and that our faith, our traditions, and our
community will continue and become even stronger and more vibrant than we
can imagine.
